CODE OF CONDUCT WELL COME UNITED HAMBURG 2024

We want to plan, discuss, learn, and enjoy our time together in a respectful atmosphere. For this reason, we have given thought to how we want to shape this gathering together:

1. WHAT WE ASK FOR

We come from diverse backgrounds, have different experiences, and bring varied perspectives. This diversity is our strength. Therefore, we expect all participants to:

  • Interact with respect and consideration for one another

  • Take opinions and contributions seriously

  • Create and appreciate space for different perspectives

  • Support and offer help to each other

  • Ensure that no one is excluded and that everyone has a voice

  • Offer criticism respectfully and constructively

  • Respect and protect each others boundaries, even when it becomes challenging

2. WHAT WE DO NOT ASK FOR

  • Any form of discrimination, including racism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim racism, anti-Black racism, racism against Sintizze and Romnja, and other forms of group-based hostility, sexism, queerphobia, transphobia, homophobia, discrimination against people with disabilities, or similar attacks and discrimination, has no place here and will be actively and critically addressed.

  • Behaviors, actions, gestures, symbols, comments, or language that could be perceived by others as boundary-crossing

  • Psychological and physical violence, aggressive rhetoric, and intimidation

3. WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS

Should conflicts arise, we assume we will work through them among ourselves to the best of our abilities. This means we will respect and implement our awareness concept.

What is Awareness?

Awareness is a concept centered around respectful interaction, remaining attentive and sensitive to discrimination and misconduct. This includes all forms of discrimination based on gender, social or geographic origin, skin color, age, sexual orientation, and religion. Boundary violations can happen anywhere. Each individual brings their own experiences, socialization, language, and culture, and we must actively keep this in mind in our interactions. As individuals, we may unconsciously reproduce discrimination in one way or another. We recognize that we must continuously and critically reflect on our own behavior.

Boundary-Crossing/Discriminatory Behavior

  • The definition of a boundary violation rests solely with the person affected.

  • Anyone affected by, for example, racist or sexualized violence can independently determine what they perceive as violence and when violence is experienced, categorized, and assessed by them based on their personal history, present, and experiences. For instance, unwanted touches, dancing too closely, or persistent verbal engagement may be perceived as intrusive behavior.

Awareness Structure

The awareness concept aims to help identify, reduce, prevent, and heighten our collective awareness of violations and discrimination. This is essential because the awareness team is not a special authority; rather, everyone present is encouraged to contribute to a mindful environment where everyone can feel comfortable.

  • Be attentive! Respect your personal boundaries and those of others.

  • If you see someone who may need help, ask them if possible. Contact the awareness team if necessary.

  • If you feel uncomfortable or threatened handling a situation alone, you can always speak with the awareness team or others.

  • If you need support or a quiet place, there is an awareness room as a retreat space.

  • You can always reach out to the awareness team. We will respond if you ask us to.

If support from the awareness team is needed, please contact the Info Point, the bar (during the party), or ask security. They will then connect you with the awareness team. Members of the awareness team are marked with a pink A” on their shoulder.

Responsible Use of Media

Please feel free to share moments from the gathering on social media, but respect the privacy of all involved. Always ask permission before posting photos or videos of others.
